Film making conventions
Convict sits in front of the authority to show their superiority. Walks out with head down to show disappointment. Everyone standing around with nothing to do shows reality of jail. Cramped spaces shows how bad jail is and that it isn't shown in a nice light.
Cultural codes
Jail clothes show that they are convicts. Roughed up hat shows they aren't rich. Dirty clothes show poverty.
Good choice of clip and good notes, albeit very brief. Try to use the terminology - connotes, signifies etc rather than 'shows'.
